One of Handel’s most successful operas—in his time and today—tells the thrilling story of Rome’s supreme ruler and Egypt’s legendary queen. Raffaele Pe takes on the title role of the conquering general who in turn is conquered by the beauty of Cleopatra ( Mary Bevan). Sara Mingardo (Cornelia) and Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen (her son Sesto) are the grieving family of the murdered Pompey. Carlo Vistoli sings Cleopatra’s conniving brother Tolomeo. Early music specialist Rinaldo Alessandrini conducts.
