Story of Aida
At the centre of the opera is the Ethiopian princess Aida, who lives as a prisoner at the Egyptian court.
Caught between her love for Radamès and her loyalty to her father Amonasro, she faces a conflict between personal emotion and political duty.
Giuseppe Verdi composed Aida in 1871.
The opera combines intimate emotional moments with monumental choruses and triumphant marches. In the vast space of the Arena di Verona, these contrasts gain exceptional dramatic intensity.
