Arena di Verona Opera Festival 2027

The Arena di Verona Opera Festival transforms the ancient Roman amphitheatre into one of the world’s largest open-air stages.

The 2027 season presents five major opera productions, together with ballet, gala evenings and immersive concerts. One of its principal highlights is the return of a full-length ballet to the Arena after 34 years with Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet.

From traditional productions inspired by the history of the festival to contemporary stagings using light, reflections and modern scenic design, the programme offers several different ways to experience the extraordinary atmosphere of the Arena.

Operas at the Arena di Verona in 2027

The 2027 programme includes some of the most celebrated works in the operatic repertoire:

  • Aida – Historic 1913 Production
Gianfranco de Bosio’s monumental staging pays tribute to the first Aida presented at the Arena in 1913.
  • La Traviata
Verdi’s story of love and sacrifice returns in the production by Paul Curran.
  • Carmen
Bizet’s opera is presented in Franco Zeffirelli’s spectacular and richly detailed production.
  • Nabucco
Verdi’s biblical drama returns in Stefano Poda’s contemporary staging, with monumental lighting and symbolic scenic design.
  • Aida – Stefano Poda Production
The modern “Crystal Aida” returns during the second half of the festival with its distinctive world of light, reflections and sculptural forms.

Ballet and Special Events

In addition to the main opera programme, the 2027 season presents ballet, gala performances and large-scale concerts:

  • Romeo and Juliet – Prokofiev’s complete ballet returns dance to the Arena after 34 years.
  • Roberto Bolle & Friends – Two evenings featuring Roberto Bolle and international ballet stars.
  • Jonas Kaufmann in Opera – A new gala evening dedicated to the celebrated tenor.
  • Viva Vivaldi – An immersive interpretation of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
  • Paganini Paradise – An immersive concert inspired by the music and virtuosity of Niccolò Paganini.
  • Carmina Burana – Carl Orff’s monumental work for orchestra, chorus and soloists.

Two Productions of Aida

Aida occupies a special place in the history of the Arena di Verona and will be presented in two contrasting productions in 2027.

The Historic 1913 Production offers a classical interpretation with monumental Egyptian scenery, ceremonial processions and historically inspired costumes. It is performed from June until early August.

From 12 August, Aida returns in the contemporary production by Stefano Poda. Often called “Crystal Aida,” this staging uses light, mirrors and sculptural structures to create an abstract and modern visual world.

When booking, check the production name shown beside your chosen date.

Tickets and Seating at the Arena di Verona

Tickets are available in several seating categories, from seats in the stalls close to the stage to places on the historic stone tiers of the amphitheatre.

Numbered seats provide an assigned place, while some of the upper stone-step categories may be unreserved. The view, distance from the stage and type of seating vary according to the selected category.

Tips for Your Visit

Performances take place outdoors and generally begin after sunset. Start times vary according to the date, so check the time shown on your ticket carefully.

Even during summer, temperatures can fall later in the evening. A light jacket or wrap can therefore be useful. Comfortable footwear is also recommended, particularly for visitors seated in the higher tiers.

Arriving early gives you sufficient time to enter the amphitheatre, find your sector and enjoy the atmosphere of the Arena before the performance begins.
